A tribute to the divine feminine woven through the hills and history of Scotland, the Banrigh Shawl (Scottish Gaelic for "goddess" or "queen" pronounced Ban-ree) is a radiant banner of myth and memory. Designed to showcase my full Scottish Goddess Collection, this shawl invites you to carry the essence of eight ancient goddesses — from the wild Cailleach to the bright flame of Bride — wrapped in colour and story.

Worked flat from the top down in a wide triangle, the Banrigh is inspired by the traditional Scottish Hap — mimicking one half of the square shawl shape often worn by Highland women — and reimagined in soft, sweeping lace that echoes waves, wind, and whispers of the land. A final lace border binds the magic in place.

Crafted for using the mini skein bundles of the collection, the Banrigh Shawl lets each goddess shine in her own hue, anchored by a steady background shade, shown here in "Standing Stones" intended to showcase the power of earth and stone. Whether worn as a talisman of warmth or a banner of beauty, Banrigh is a crown you wear across your shoulders.

This listing is for a preorder of the shawl pattern for when it is released - this pattern is currently going through testing and will be available in approximately 4 weeks time.

Yardage - The yardage provided is an estimate. I’ve done my best to be as accurate as possible, but the amount of yarn you use may vary depending on your gauge, yarn choice, or any modifications you make to the pattern.

This shawl is designed to make the most of the mini skein bundles available as part of my Scottish Goddess Collection. The large version shown in the photos uses uneven stripe widths and different numbers of rows per colour to use up as much of each mini as possible. This version uses:

·       1 mini skein bundle (8 x 20g skeins = 160g / 640m / 700yds total)

·       1.2 skeins of the main colour (approx. 120g / 480m / 525yds)

If you prefer a smaller version or would like the stripes to be even in width, I’ve included suggestions on how to adjust the striping pattern. The even-stripe version uses:

·       Part skeins of 20g minis

·       1 full skein of the main colour (approx. 95g / 380m / 415yds)

However, please note that this version will leave you with leftovers from some of the mini skein colours. How you choose to stripe your shawl is entirely up to you — just keep in mind that your choices will affect how much yarn you use overall.

Needles - 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles. Minimum of 80cm (31.5”) cable

Gauge - 20sts and 20 rows over 10cm (4”) in Garter stitch on 3.75mm needles.
