Knit Moontwine Headband Pattern

Woven from twilight and tucked with a twist, Moontwine is a headband for stargazers and wanderers — soft enough to wear through forest hush or windswept mornings, sturdy enough to keep the chill at bay when the moon hangs low and your breath clouds the air.

Simple in form but enchanting in finish, this headband is knit flat and joined with a clever fold to create a knotted effect — a quiet detail that adds charm and warmth in equal measure. Perfect for winter walks, windswept beach rambles, or just stepping out with magic tucked around your ears.

All you need to know is knit stitched and be able to sew a seam. Photos included in the instructions will help you to create the Moontwine knot at the top of the headband.

Measurements & Sizing: This is more of a recipe than a pattern as it is made based on the measurement of the circumference of yours, or the intended wearer’s head. There are no specified sizes. This is written as intended to fit an adult head but could be modified to fit a child.

Dark Harbour Yarn Port | 100% Superwash Merino | 100g/400m (437yds) featured in the colour Ericaaarrrggghhh Blue.

AND held together with

Dark Harbour Yarn Hesperus | 70% Mohair 30% Silk | 50g/420m (459yds) featured in the colour Ericaaarrrggghhh Dark

Yardage: Yardage is estimated, and as this is pattern is based on your custom measurements, quantities will vary. There will also be differences depending on the yarn you use and gauge variations.

The example pictured is for a person with a 56cm circumference head. The finished item has a circumference of 50cm. This item used:

Dark Harbour Port (Fingering / 4ply weight): 30g  / 120m ( 131.2yds)

Dark Harbour Hesperus (Lace weight): 15g / 126m (137.8yds)

Needles: 3.75mm (US 5) circular or DPN needles depending on your preference.

Gauge: 22sts and 26 rows over 10cm (4”) in stockinette on 3.75mm needles.
